Mt. Pleasant, Richfield and Eureka Gun Clubs at Mt. Pleasant

Help us identify these Guys !!!

Lee comments:  I can not help you with the names but I did attend at least two competitions in the late 20's of the group. It was at least in part a "trap" shooting club and the trap from which they fired the clay pigeons was at the far south side of the ball park.

Female Relief Society April 17,1876

Meeting held April 17th 1876.  Opened with singing "O Saints Have You Seen on Your Mountain Tops"
Prayer by Sister Peeel.  Minutes of a former meeting were read and accepted.  Also reports of donations and disbursements.

Sister Morrison addressed the meeting at some length and was glad to see so many present and hoped now that the weather was fine that the sisters would make in convenient to come to meeting, that the house might be filled and the Spirit of the lord might fill every bosom to overflowing.  She hoped that the sisters belonging to the visiting committees would be particular to keep a correct accounting of donations received by them no matter how small, so that a correct report could be made at the end of the year.. also to remember the coming emigration.  There were some who had donated last meeting, but there were still many more that might do so, that every little would help.  That the Lord did not look at the amount given so much as the spirit in which it was given, for He loved a cheerful giver.. That now was the gathering of the dispensation that the servants of the Lord had been called to go to the nations of the earth to gather out the honest in heart and prepare for the second coming of the Messiah.

Sister Peel spoke in the Danish language and interpreted what had been previously said so that all might be benefited.  Many of the sisters bore a faithful testimony to the great work of the last days and rejoiced in the privilege afforded them of hearing the servants of the Lord from time to time.

It was proposed and seconded that our meetings which were held semi-monthly should be continued; one a testimony meeting , the other a business meeting alternately.
Meeting closed with singing and benediction by Sister Peterson.

It was also moved and seconded that Sister Hasler should be appointed Assistant Secretary for the Relief Society which was unanimous.

Female Relief Society April 3, 1876

Meeting held April 3rd, 1876.  Opened with singing My God the Spring of all my joys.  Prayer by Sister Peel.  Minutes of former meeting were read and accepted.  Also reports of donations and disbursements.

Sister Morrison talked of the emigration and of the responsibility that rested upon us as Saints of the most High.  That we had come up to Zion, received our washings and ... and new of the blessings accruing from observance of the ordinances.  That it was our duty to use every lawful effort in our power to assist in the gathering of the honest in heart, that they too, might have an opportunity of coming up to Zion to learn the law of the Lord and assist in building up his kingdom that His will might be done on earth as it was done in heaven.
Fifteen of the sisters present donated liberally towards the emigration and a general good feeling was present.

Sister Peel bore her testimony.  Sister Simpson said she was desirous to live her religion and walk in humility and do unto others as she would be done unto.. hoped to live to do the will of the Lord and keep His commandments.

Sister c. Peterson said she felt well in the church and kingdom of God, and was desirous to do all the good she could and share her faith by her works.  Many of the sisters bore their testimony in the Danish language.

There was a great deal said about the dirty meeting house and two of the sisters were appointed as  a d....tion.  Sister Peel and Simpson to call upon Bishop  to see what arrangements could be entered into that it might be regularly cleaned and attended to, knowing that the state in which it was now kept was a disgrace to Mt. Pleasant.

It was proposed and seconded that Sister Stena Nelson be admitted as a member of our Society.  Vote was unanimous.

Meeting closed with singing "From all That Dwells Beneath the Skies.
Benediction by Sister Jensen.

Two Young Ladies (unknown)

A gentleman by the name of Ron Thomas from Fairview dropped by the museum and donated this picture.  His late wife, Glenna Thomas,  collected old photos.  He had no idea who these ladies were and asked if we would like the picture.  Hopefully, someone will recognize them and claim them for their own.

John Cliff and Cassie Rasmussen (Mystery)

This photo was found amongst Alice Hafen's photo collection.  I looked up both John Cliff and Cassie Rasmussen in New Family Search. Can't find them as a married couple.  However, they are both wearing wedding bands.  One possible solution to this mystery is that Cassie is possibly Anna Katherine Rasmussen and Cassie is a nickname.  Anna Katherine Rasmussen was the daughter of Christian Rasmussen and Hermina Rozena Hafen which could  be the reason it was amongst Alice's photos.  Alice's mother-in-law, Carrie Hafen was born in 1889 and Anna Katherine was born in 1891.  This photo may have come from Carrie's photo collection.  If you can, please help us fill in the blanks.  Thank You

Betty Gunderson Woodbury answers: Kathy, John Thomas Cliff is listed on New Family Search with his second wife Lilly Gustafria Johnson 1895-1974 Md 1926. Check Spouse record. You will find Anna Katherine (Cassie) Rasmussen 1891-1921 Md abt 1912 with one son. John had two brothers, Edward Parley and George William. George Cliff was a very good friend of my fathers and I knew him well. Hope this helps. Betty

Mayor of the Month ~ November 2010 ~ George Christensen ~ Mayor of 1900 - 1902

In March 1903, while George Christensen was mayor, the city voted a bond for water works, but not until 1905, during H. C. Beaumann's term, were contracts let for installing the system. In due time, the system was installed, and with its completion. the settling barrels with their prickly pears, which had been used at most every home for the settling of the roily water, disappeared.  taken from Mt. Cinnamon and Honey ~ Useful Tips ~ shared by Carol Corcoran

Thought this was very interesting, and maybe we ought to try it.

Cinnamon and Honey

Honey is the only food on the planet that will not spoil or rot. It will

do what some call turning to sugar. In reality honey is always honey.

However, when left in a cool dark place for a long time it will do what

I rather call "crystallizing".

When this happens I loosen the lid, boil some water, and sit the honey

container in the hot water, off the heat and let it liquefy. It is then

as good as it ever was.

Never boil honey or put it in a microwave. To do so will kill the

enzymes in the honey.

Facts on Honey and Cinnamon:

It is found that a mixture of honey and Cinnamon cures most diseases.

Honey is produced in most of the countries of the world. Scientists of

today also accept honey as a 'Ram Ban' (very effective) medicine for all

kinds of diseases.

Honey can be used without any side effects for any kind of diseases.

Today's science says that even though honey is sweet, if taken in the

right dosage as a medicine, it does not harm diabetic patients.

Weekly World News, a magazine in Canada , in its issue dated 17

January,1995 has given the following list of diseases that can be cured

by honey and cinnamon as researched by western scientists:

HEART DISEASES:

Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder, apply on bread, instead of

jelly and jam, and eat it regularly for breakfast. It reduces the

cholesterol in the arteries and saves the patient from heart attack.

Also, those who have already had an attack, if they do this process

daily, they are kept miles away from the next attack. Regular use of the

above process relieves loss of breath and strengthens the heart beat.

In America and Canada , various nursing homes have treated patients

successfully and have found that as you age, the arteries and veins lose

their flexibility and get clogged; honey and cinnamon revitalize the

arteries and veins.

ARTHRITIS:

Arthritis patients may take daily, morning and night, one cup of hot

water with two spoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon

powder. If taken regularly even chronic arthritis can be cured. In a

recent research conducted at the Copenhagen University , it was found

that when the doctors treated their patients with a mixture of one

tablespoon Honey and half teaspoon Cinnamon powder before breakfast,

they found that within a week, out of the 200 people so treated,

practically 73 patients were totally relieved of pain, and within a

month, mostly all the patients who could not walk or move around because

of arthritis started walking without pain.

BLADDER INFECTIONS:

Take two tablespoons of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of honey in a

glass of lukewarm water and drink it.

It destroys the germs in the bladder.

CHOLESTEROL:

Two tablespoons of honey and three teaspoons of Cinnamon Powder mixed in

16 ounces of tea water, given to a cholesterol patient, was found to

reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood by 10 percent within two hours.

As mentioned for arthritic patients, if taken three times a day, any
chronic cholesterol is cured. According to information received in the

said Journal, pure honey taken with food daily relieves complaints of
cholesterol.

COLDS:

Those suffering from common or severe colds should take one tablespoon

lukewarm honey with 1/4 spoon cinnamon powder daily for three days. This
process will cure most chronic cough, cold, and clear the sinuses.

UPSET STOMACH:
Honey taken with cinnamon powder cures stomach ache and also clears

stomach ulcers from the root.

GAS:
>
Honey is taken with cinnamon powder the stomach is relieved of gas.

IMMUNE SYSTEM:
Daily use of honey and cinnamon powder strengthens the immune system and
protects the body from bacteria and viral attacks. Scientists have found

that honey has various vitamins and iron in large amounts. Constant use
of Honey strengthens the white blood corpuscles to fight bacterial and
viral diseases.

INDIGESTION:

Cinnamon powder sprinkled on two tablespoons of honey taken before food

relieves acidity and digests the heaviest of meals.

INFLUENZA:
A scientist in Spain has proved that honey contains a natural '
Ingredient' which kills the influenza germs and saves the patient from
flu.

LONGEVITY:
Tea made with honey and cinnamon powder, when taken regularly, arrests
the ravages of old age. Take four spoons of honey, one spoon of cinnamon
powder, and three cups of water and boil to make like tea. Drink 1/4

cup, three to four times a day. It keeps the skin fresh and soft and
arrests old age. Life spans also increase and even a 100 year old,
starts performing the chores of a 20-year-old.\

PIMPLES:
Three tablespoons of honey and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder paste.
Apply this paste on the pimples before sleeping and wash it next morning
with warm water. If done daily for two weeks, it removes pimples from
the root.
SKIN INFECTIONS:
Applying honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts on the affected parts
cures eczema, ringworm and all types of skin infections.

WEIGHT LOSS:

Daily in the morning one half hour before breakfast on an empty stomach,
and at night before sleeping, drink honey and cinnamon powder boiled in
one cup of water. If taken regularly, it reduces the weight of even the
most obese person. Also, drinking this mixture regularly does not allow
the fat to accumulate in the body even though the person may eat a high

CANCER:

Recent research in Japan and Australia has revealed that advanced cancer
of the stomach and bones have been cured successfully. Patients
suffering from these kinds of cancer should daily take one tablespoon of
honey with one teaspoon of cinnamon powder for one month three times a
day.

FATIGUE:
Recent studies have shown that the sugar content of honey is more
helpful rather than being detrimental to the strength of the body.
Senior citizens, who take honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts, are
more alert and flexible. Dr. Milton, who has done research, says that a
half tablespoon of honey taken in a glass of water and sprinkled with
cinnamon powder, taken daily after brushing and in the afternoon at
about 3:00 P.M. when the vitality of the body starts to decrease,
increases the vitality of the body within a week.

BAD BREATH:
People of South America , first thing in the morning, gargle with one
teaspoon of honey and cinnamon powder mixed in hot water, so their
breath stays fresh throughout the day.

HEARING LOSS:

Daily morning and night honey and cinnamon powder, taken in equal parts
restores hearing. Remember when we were kids? We had toast with real
butter and cinnamon sprinkled on it!

Our own disclaimer: Seems like a cure for practically everything, I plan to try some of these, however, you need to know we do not recommend any of the above without medical advice.  We asked Peter's Heart  Doctor about this -  Specifically for heart patients and chhlesterol. He said that just  he fructose content alone, combined with whatever would be a problem issue and would not recommend this cure.

We the Boys of Sanpete County

Someone recently told me they had attended an Education Week Seminar where they learned about Bishop  Wm. S. Seely and the "boys of Sanpete Valley" and asked me if we knew the story. The lyrics of the following song were composed by members of Mormon companies who tried to cross a spring runoff-swollen Green River on 25 June 1868.  They were teamsters headed east to meet and assist immigrants traveling to Utah.  On that eventful day, they saw six of their number drown while trying to cross the raging river on a ferry. We posted the song a on My 20th, but didn't know the whole story. I later ran onto a site you may want to visit to learn of the  story. Here are the words from the Song:  "We The Boys of Sanpete County".

We the boys of Sanpete County
In Obedience to the Call
Started out with forty wagons
To bring the emigrants this fall
Without fear or thought of danger.
~
On our way we lightly sped
Every heart with joy abounding
Captain Seely at our head.
To accomplish the mission
We were Called to fill below.
~
Left our friends and wives and Children
On the dreary plains to go.
Over hills and lofty mountains
Through the mud and in the dust
Slowly Climbed the lofty mountain.
~
Far above the snows white Crust.
With the sun to set declining
glad to welcome closing day
By some stream or gushing fountain
To refresh all night we stay.
~
When we reached green river ferry
On its banks all night we stay
Next morning ferried our wagons over
Thinking soon to roll away
Next to drive our Cattle over.
~
But we found they would not swim
Though the boys were in the water
Many hours up to the Chin.
While the boat was passing Over
The water into it did pour.
~
The Captain cried boys we‘re going under
We shall sink this very hour
One had landed on an island
Clinging to the willow green
But with him life soon extinguished
~
Backwards fell into the stream.
Thus six boys from parents driven
And from friends whom they did love
But we yet again shall meet them
In that better world above.
